Gameshow exam idea

- Male presenter (as its a male dominated industry) (mid 40's for aspiration to the male audience)
- female assistant (glamorous and young) (adds male gaze)

IDEA:
There will be 12 contestants and 4 rounds. Each round 3 people will be eliminated until the final round. In each round there will be a ready made dish in front of the contestants. There will also be plates with lids over them, each containing one ingredient. Every time a contestant is called up they have to guess the ingredients in the dish. They will each get a taste of it to help them. The order in which the contestants are called up are based on the scores of test they take previously. The test will be of images of dishes and they have to answer it. The contestants can be of all ages but each episode there will be a determined age group to make it more fair. There will also be family specials where there are 4 families and one family will be eliminated every round. There will be "life lines" (used in "who wants to be a millionaire") except it will only be for the audience to determine one ingredient. There will also be some episodes where random contestants are chose from the audience.

PRIZE:
Depending on the age group it will either be a car or year supply of Cadbury chocolate.

SPONSORSHIP: Cadbury and Hyundai. I chose These two brands as they are well known and Hyundais are cheap reliable car which fits the budget for a digital channel.

TITLE/ BREAKS: The title sequence will be around 30 seconds of a breif overview on what dishes are on the show that day. It will also feature a logo beeing zoomed in at while its flying from a corner to create a 3D effect. The logo will be changed slightly depending on what kind of "special" it is (Wipeout also does this) to establish the target audience for that episode. In between breaks all the main sponsors will have an ad block and since it is "prime time" t.v there will also be ads that focuse on all four quadrants. (Toys, shampoos, deoderants, razors etc.)

APP: There will be an app available to use which will show when the next episode is to air and behind the scenes. This makes the audience more involved with the show. On the app there will also be a "rate your favourite dish of the month," to get the audience even more involved. It will be a free app but there will be ads which popup so the users can pay a small amount to remove these ads. They will also get some benefits which allow them access to "premium" videos, a live timing of the results (if they can't view the show at a specific moment etc.

Conventions for "Total Wipeout"

- Within 5 seconds of the introduction there is already been the theme song, an extreme long shot and area of the show. There has also been humour added with a vinyl scratch and a presenter who can't pronounce the name of the city.

- A dramatic sequence is being played to connote action. The instruments used are brass, connoting a focus on an older audience as well.

- And to no surprise is also male as nearly all game shows have male hosts. Here the presenter is seen with his assistants and crew setting up the show making it feel more "real" as there is a quick "sneak peak" of the behind the scenes.

- The presenter also continues to mispronounce the name of the location and eventually does it completely wrong. When he gets it completely wrong he says "yes, thats it," and in the next shot he repeats the incorrect way, adding humour.

- After 24 seconds the contestants are finally seen waving and cheering at the camera is shaking violently to give a personal connection to the audience and connote that this game show is about action.
-The presenter then subtly describes them as "Daredevil nut jobs, " to give the impression that these people are "hardcore". He then completely juxtaposes this by stating some stereotypical "lame" jobs of some of the contestants, to portray them as normal people but also to add humour.

- The intro is over at 47 seconds and after a brief overview on how the show is going to be the presenter says the slogan "let the falling begin," and then all the words appear on screen. This is the first time a new audience will know what the name of the game show is if they haven't had any previous knowledge to it. This connotes that the show is well known as they don't need to establish it before the end of the intro.
- After telling the audience he assumes that they already know what the show is about and the obstacles, he tries to add comedic effect, yet again with ridiculing the Latino culture of the country where the show is being filmed. Further connoting the target audience as young people who can take a joke.
- After a second or two he completely abandons the idea and proceeds to explain whats "on today's show," proving that he picked up the
guitar only for comedic effect.

- He proceeds to explain all the different rounds and hypes it up with negativity which appeals to a younger audience as it connotes informality. This also is an attempt on comedic effect by kind of saying that everyone will fail apart from one man who "will unfail and take home the prize of £100 000".

- It's been nearly two minutes and the first contestant hasn't even been introduced, instead the audience gets a host who continues to ridicule the guitar and starts teasing the audience. He does this by saying he will have 20 seconds before the contestants start to perform a piece on the guitar. Instead he tunes it in a silly manner and is just about to start when the transition plays and the first contestant is seen. While this is all bizarre and quite silly, it's enough to keep the audiences attention before the "real" show starts and it perfectly outlines what sort of game show it is. An action packed obstacle course with comedy.

- The use of CGI connotes a younger target audience as it looks appealing and "cartoony" for them.

- Here we see the glamorous female assistant which helps with "male gaze" in the game show.

- The assistant starts flirting with the male contestant and he flirts back. This connoted informality and would appeal to a younger audience with a a social class of C2DE.

- Replays in slow motion to connote action and increase humour by showing the "fails," again but with more time to see it.

- There is a leaderboard to show the audience where everyone stands so they don't have to remember themselves, making it easier for them to focus on the game show.

- Every contestant has a brief introduction of themselves and some decide to go overboard to establish a "fanbase".

- It also creates a personal interaction with the audience making sure that they keep watching.

- Live interaction with the audience is shown.

Conventions from "Play your Cards Right"

Title sequence / Music

audience about the nature of
the game show.

Flashy/bright CGI can appeal
to a younger secondary target
audience as it is more cartoony
and has a lot more effect.

Audience live applause over title
to show audience interaction

Jazz style music connoting an adult primary target audience.

More interaction with audience:

the audience. (Catch phrases)

Audience interaction is seen below when he says
"Nice to see you to see you.." then he proceeds
to lift his hand to the audience and they reply
with "Nice". (As seen below)

"Dolly dealers," is used for male gaze and are
quite glamorised and seen as kind of like a dumb
